First Presbyterian Church of Fairbanks

FPC’s Response to the Confessing Church Movement within our Denomination

We, the Session of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairbanks, Alaska, agree on the four statements listed below in order to reaffirm our belief in those portions of the historical confessions of the Presbyterian Church (USA) that are being questioned in the larger church today.

February 12, 2002

  1. We invite all people to join us in worship. We desire for all who visit our church to feel loved by God, and encourage all who put their trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to join us in membership. We call people everywhere to believe in and follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. (W-7.2001)
  2. All people stand in need of the forgiveness of our sins, and we believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took on the sins of the world and suffered death on the cross, thus delivering to eternal life those who accept him. The church is called to tell the good news of salvation by the grace of god through faith in Jesus Christ as the only Savior and Lord. (G-3.0300)
  3. We believe The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the unique and authoritative witness to Jesus Christ, and our guide to faith and life. (G-14.0405)
  4. We are called to holiness in every area of life, and to lead a life either in fidelity within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, or chastity in singleness. (G-6.0106)

We call upon Presbyterians to join us in affirming these historic principles of our faith, believing that this will lead us into the peace, unity, and purity of the church. (G-14.0405)

Approved by The Session of First Presbyterian Church of Fairbanks on February 12, 2002. (The underlined portions are words taken directly from The Presbyterian Church (USA)’s Book of Order, part two of our constitution).
